Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 75 lbs
My german shepherd is 1 year and he had a really bad habit of sometimes eating his poop. I’ve been able to stop him every time he poops but he is able to eat it when I’m not home. I thought he would eventually grow out of it but it seems like he isn’t. I’m think of getting a coprophagia medicine from online. Do you have a recommendation or any other way.

There are 2 ways to try tackling a coprophagia habit. 1 is to get him on a medication called Forbid. The other is to try adding 1-2 tsp of meat tenderizer in his food daily. The idea for both is to try to get his poop to taste bad so that he won't want to continue eating it, since it seems some dogs just really like the taste. I would do either option for at least 14 consecutive days. I hope that this helps you curb Rocky's habit of poop eating. Best wishes and take care.

Usually coprophagia, or eating poop, is a learned behavior and not a sign of a medical problem. Some dogs like to do this for whatever reason, and picking poop up immediately is the best way to discourage it. I would recommend having your vet examine Scout and perform a rectal exam to make sure there isn't something abnormal that might cause pain when he is attempting to defecate (potentially an anal gland problem or polyp or growth in the rectum).

Coprohagy is certainly a gross behavior, but it isn't unnatural for dogs. The best way to prevent it is to pick up the poop after he leaves it. Here is a good article on copraphagy and ways to deal with it: https://www.petcoach.co/article/stool-eating-coprophagy/

This is called coprophagia. Here is a link to an article about this issue. Often times puppies will outgrow this behavior. ( https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/dog-behavior-problems-coprophagia ) It is best to immediately pick up the poop as soon as he goes so he doesn't have the chance to eat it. You can also put this powder on his food that is supposed to make the poop "taste bad" so he won't want to eat it. https://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=595 Hope this helps. Best wishes.
