Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male

we have a small kitten that showed up at our home yesterday. It is sneezing a lot and has some nasal discharge. I'm trying to locate its owner via social media. in the mean time I'm concerned about letting my indoor/outdoor cat out (might the kitten have something contagious to my cat? It was raining heavy at times yesterday and the kitten was soaked when we found it.

Yes, you need to keep your cat separated from the kitten. Parasites, Felv/FIV viruses or the respiratory infection could all spread to the adult cat. Make sure to wash your hands and change any clothes that came in contact with the kitten after you handle him to lessen the chance of contamination. If you cannot locate the owner and the kitten is sick, have it examined by the veterinarian so that it doesn't get worse. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
