My dog bit his nail off and his paw is bleeding. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 8 lbs

Last week I noticed Cali limping. Everyday since then he has been attacking his back paw, but the limping stopped. This morning I woke up and found that he bit the nail off and there is some bleeding. What should I do?

Hello, I'd recommend taking Cali to her veterinarian. Limping is a sign of pain, as well as excessive chewing. They will likely want to x-ray her leg and look for signs of infection, a tumor, or another cause for her to be in pain. I hope this is helpful.
