My rabbit has a swollen testicle, weak leg, and is lethargic. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 9 months old

My rabbit has a swollen blue testis and the other one has shrunk. He is lethargic and one of his hind legs (opposite to the swollen testis) has weakened, due to which he has trouble walking. Please, kindly help my rabbit. Please suggest some meds. We don’t have any vets who treat rabbits.

Thanks for reaching out about Snowbell. This is probably not a simple condition so a veterinary visit needs to be scheduled, even if not experts in rabbits. A swollen testicle can be an infection, tumor or other, but due to the nature of rabbit pus, just antibiotics rarely sure this. Recommendation is probably castration. As for the leg, radiographs are probably needed to determine what is going on, fracture/dislocation/spinal problems. Each has different treatments. Good luck.

Wow, this looks very serious. The left testicle is very swollen. I agree with you. This doesn't add up. He obviously has two testicles in these photos. There is not an undescended testicle. I suggest the vet take him to surgery and castrate him. A hernia into the tunic of the testicle is possible. This is not likely to resolve on it's own. Sorry, we cannot be of any additional help. We would need to examine Snowbell in person. We can only tell so much from photos and your description of events/treatment.
