Why is my dog shaking, hiding, and yelping despite normal vet tests?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 6 years and 4 months old | 7 lbs

My dog has been acting very strange for a couple of months now. However, the behavior is sporadic (doesn’t occur daily) and she can go for a week or so without any symptoms. She first started with shaking and hiding. I took her to the vet and had her get X-rays and blood work done, which turned out to be normal. The vet recommended trying an anxiety supplement, which seemed to be working. But, yesterday and today, she has yelped like she was in pain and started hiding again. What is going on?

Something must be underlying and causing her pain. She had x-rays of what? I would be focusing on the neck/spine and hip areas. X-rays are only one diagnostic tool. Have pain medications been tried or only anxiety medication? If nothing shows up on the x-rays then an MRI would be the next step.
