Yes, hamsters can eat cucumbers as well as carrots, apples, bananas, lettuce, zucchini, pears, strawberries and blueberries. Make sure to only offer small pieces because fruits and veggies can cause diarrhea if given in excess. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Thanks for reaching out about Knight. Small pieces of any fruit can be offered but in very small quantities. The high sugar content can feed abnormal bacteria leading to diarrhea or gas bloat. Good luck.

Most fruits and veggies are safe for hamsters in moderation (carrots, kale, cucumbers, strawberries, banana, grapes, mango, etc). Avoid fruit seeds (apple seeds, grape seeds, and fruit pits), garlic, onion, chocolate, potato skins, and foods with yeast (like bread and beer). Nuts are safe for hamsters, but they are very high in fat, so they should only be given as an infrequent treat. Good luck, and I hope that Murritt enjoys her snacks! :)

A hamster needs fresh fruits and vegetables as well as grains and greens. You can feed him daily in the morning or in the evening. Acceptable vegetables and greens include romaine lettuce, cauliflower, squash, spinach, broccoli, carrots and cucumbers. Commercial pellets or blocks can be offered along with a seed mix, vegetables and greens (as listed above) and fruit such as apple, pear, banana and grapes. Be sure to check the cage frequently to clean out any hoards to prevents pests and rot.

1. No, not true. A high-fiber, fortified food should make up approximately 90% of your hamster's diet. A complete fortified food such as Oxbow’s Essentials Hamster and Gerbil Food would be the best option. Hey, How often can / should I give my hamster lettuce and other vegs?
Great question! Lettuce has no nutritional value for hamsters, so I wouldn't feed that to Khaleesi. There are other veggies that aren't good for hamsters, and I will put a link below to a website details which ones are good for them. You will have to slowly introduce the veggies to her, as too many at once causes diarrhea. Start by giving her a small piece of veggie twice a week, and gradually increase it until she has a small piece once a day. Be sure to give her fresh veggies every day so they don't get moldy. Can my hamster eat the wild mulberry I picked? It's been washed and there shouldn't be any pesticides.
Mulberries do not have any toxic potential, however I would not recommend feeding them to Bear. The reason for this is that hamsters are not as well equipped to process fruits as rats or mice are. They have a gastrointestinal tract that is a cross between a horse and a cow. This means that they need more fibrous foods than a cow would need (that is the horse part), but that they do fermentation in their forestomach (that is the cow part). Due to that, their food is often more of a fiber-type of base than a rat or mouse would be (they have a gastrointestinal tract that is more similar to a dog, and can handle fruits and higher protein than a hamster). I am not sure what type of food, or brand, that you are feeding currently, but one of my favorites is Oxbow. They make a food that is great for hamsters, and fulfills all of their nutritional needs. This can then be supplemented with treats that consist of vegetables (bell peppers, green beans, tomato, squash). I would not recommend feedin

Hi Jaime! There are a lot of fruits and veggies that are safe for rabbits. Leafy greens, like kale, parsley, and cilantro should make up the bulk of their non-pellet, non-hay treats, but fruits in moderation can be great for them, too. Bits of apple, strawberry, pear, papaya, mango, banana, and apricots are good choices. Make sure that they are washed well, and that they don't encompass more than 5-10% of your rabbits' diet. Avoid avocado, all seeds and pits, and wild fruits and veggies. Good luck!

Hello, and congratulations on your new hamster! Bear is such a cutie! I think it is just fine to give her small amounts of veggies and fruits to get her bonded to you. However, I would stick to no more than a few small pieces each day, and reserve the rest of her diet as hamster pellets (ideally with no extra nuts or seeds). This will ensure she does not get too fat! I hope this helps, and that Bear is doing well!
