My dog threw up, won't eat, and is hiding. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 8 months and 25 days old | 40 lbs

My dog usually LOVES food and will come running at the sound of food but he was just lying on my bed and then randomly threw up all his dinner from 6 hours ago. I put some food in his bowl because I thought he might get hungry because he threw up all his food but he wouldn’t touch it which is not like him at all. I tried to give him a treat and he didn’t want it either. Now he’s just hiding under my bed and doesn’t wanna come out and I’m worried.

It sounds like poor Kato is sick. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
