My new dog is scared and won't leave her crate. How to help?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 8 months old

We got a sweet girl today. She was raised in a kennel, held her whole life in a kennel, got very little socialization with other animals and humans (one of each), and is obviously experiencing side effects from this. We have a crate we got for our first baby, as she likes to sleep with no disturbance. Telakora refuses to leave the crate now that our first girl was let out. She's quite skittish, and flinches. Is there anything I can do to help her, other than the obvious, loads of love?

You only got Telakora today, so patience is key. It will take time for her to adjust and become comfortable. Give her space, and when she comes out, softly praise her and offer her a treat. When she approaches you, again softly praise her and give her a treat. Do not force her to come out of the kennel. Over time, she hopefully should learn to love and trust.
