New rescue dog: Is vaginal prolapse normal after having puppies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 11 lbs

I just rescued this girl on Sunday. Soon after I noticed something is coming out of her vagina. Her vet told me not to come in until next week since it isn’t hurting her to let her settle in. She was rescued as a stray with her baby, and she looks like she has had many babies before. Is it a vaginal prolapse? Should I take her in sooner?

Hi, it is not a prolapse it looks like some hyperplasia ( enlargement ) probably due to the fact she had many babies. I would not worry, it’s fine to have her checked over in a week. Hope this helps !
