Why is my cat suddenly slinking, growling, and acting threatened?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 0 lbs

My Cat, Maggie, female, age 2; she is acting very strange. All day, for over 5 hours now has been slinking around the house, growling and acting very threatened by something in or around the house. There is nothing there, from what I can see or hear. She won't let anyone near her, especially not me for some reason, my boyfriend had more luck. We decided to leave her alone and put her in our room as she likes to hide under the bed, although she keeps coming out into the living room to investigate

I think leaving her alone for now is a good idea. There could be another animal outside that Maggie saw or smelled causing this behavior. Give her some space, but if she is still acting like this tomorrow, have her seen by a vet.
