Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 8 months old | 14.4 lbs
My dog skipped breakfast and then I served him his lunch. He ate half of it then threw it all back up within 5 minutes. I didn’t change his diet at all, and he’s been acting completely fine. What should I do?

Poor Toffee sounds sick. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Poor Lucky! Vomiting can be caused by several things; some possibilities include inflammation of the pancreas, inflammatory bowel disease, swallowing something that is now stuck in his intestine or stomach, or other internal illness. Taking him to your vet will allow them to examine him, run blood work, take X-rays, and maybe even change his food to see if he tolerates a different one better. If he isn't keeping any food down, he will begin to lose weight and become lethargic. You can try offering him a different type of dog food to see if he can keep it down, but if the vomiting continues, I recommend a vet visit. Hope this helps!

If she's been repeatedly vomiting all morning, ideally get her in to see your vet. If she's lethargic or painful as well or is having severe diarrhea, you should definitely try to get her in. You can call you vet for recommendations on what you can give at home, as per my medical license, I cannot directly advise you (whom I haven't met) on extra-label use of medications on a pet that I have not seen. If everything else is normal --she's alert, happy, active, no diarrhea--- withhold food for 12 hours, and offer only very small amounts of water--the amount of a few ice cubes melted--offer a little water every 30-60 minutes. If she is tolerating small amounts of water, then after 12 hours you can try small amounts of a bland diet such as chicken and rice. You can call your vet about over the counter medications. He or she may recommend trying an acid reducer such as famotidine. Here is some info and dosing info on that drug: https://www.petcarerx.com/medication-guides/famotidine-for-pet-stomach-ulcers/1116 If there is any chance that Rosie ate bones, though, do not give famotidine or any acid reducer, as the stomach acid is needed to break down the bones. I hope thats helpful, thank you for asking PetCoach!

Throwing up can be caused by a food sensitivity, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc. I would fast Clyde for 24 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the vomiting or if the vomiting increases, or if your dog gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.
