My dog is 55 days pregnant. Can a scan accurately count her puppies?

my dog is 55 days pregnant confirmed by scan on day 29 vet said 1 pup but could be more as she is not very good with the machine I asked for an xray as my dog isnt very big but vets dont do xray on pregnant dogs. she said to bring her for another scan but can a scan show if she has more than 1 pup at 55 days or more by the time they can fit me in for appointment

It could be very difficult to gauge number of pups because at 55 days they will be big and fill most if the ultrasound screen. I would have a good chat about this with your vet before the appointment as it will also depend on the machine and operator.
