My dog on heartworm treatment isn't eating. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 5 months old | 76 lbs

His appetite is slowly decreasing. He isnt very interested in food right now. He has been in a med just shy of a month for heartworm. I just want to know if it's normal for a pet weve only had for just less than a month to have a decrease in appetite or should I be worried? Or doing somthing different food wise?

A decrease in appetite is a general sign of illness. If Deke is being treated for heartworm and is showing new signs of illness, it would be best to let your vet know so they can examine him and make sure there aren't any complications from the medication or his treatment that need to be addressed. A complete exam is also a good idea to rule out any other health issues that may be causing it.
