Why does my dog follow, cuddle, and sleep with me? Love or instinct?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 8 months and 10 days old | 25 lbs

I get all excited and feel loved when my corgis follow me around, cuddle, and sleep with me. Then I remember that it’s part of their instinct to do that because I’m the closest thing my dogs have to a pack animal. She has that thing on her because she’s in heat and I now have to wash my white covers.

They aren’t doing this because they see you as a pack leader, they do it because they love you!! I have a Chow, and while I know she loves me, she doesn’t do this. It’s because she is a Chow and they can be a bit reserved. My point is, if it was a pack thing, all dogs would do it
