Why does my dog make quick breathing noises in her sleep at night?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 13 years and 7 months old | 21 lbs

there , my dog has had an eye op lately she had glaucoma then had an infection then caught MRSA , she is getting better . For two nights after 5 hours into her sleep I woke up to a noise she was making it sounded like quick breaths about 4 then she went straight back to sleep, it didn’t sound like panting . She did this twice more . Then last night the same thing again . Nothing in the day , she is fine otherwise . I don’t no if it’s reverse sneezeing? She has a mild heart Murmur

It could be reverse sneezing, or it could be a reaction to a dream Pearl was having. Dogs do dream, and they can have breathing changes in response to it. If it's happening only when she sleeps, that is what I'm imagining is happening.
