Do guinea pig babies always look exactly like their parents?

This will help to socialize them with humans easier. Don't try to handle them when they are sleeping or nursing, but other than that you can try to handle them for a few minutes each day. They are very cute! From the pictures, yes they do look healthy, but please keep in mind I can't say this for certain without seeing them in person. If you have concerns about their health, I recommend having them checked out by a vet. I hope this helps :-)

Depending on the genes of the two hamsters who mated, a variety of different hamster colors can be created - even if it doesn't seem to match either of the parents. This is because of dominant and recessive genes/alleles that compete for expression in the genome. Unfortunately we cannot diagnose pregnancy without examining a pet in person. If they were always supervised together and you did not see any mating occur then not likely, but if they were unsupervised it is always a possibility. If you want to know for certain a visit to the vet is needed.

There is much evidence that guinea pigs are "happier" and do better in pairs or groups so it's a great idea to get more than one! If you are getting mature guinea pigs try to get a pair that is already bonded. Be 100% sure of their sex because pet stores frequently mis-sex animals and knowingly or unknowingly sell a pregnant female or a breeding pair. Getting two males or two females does not matter. One set of sexes is not better than the other. Just don't get one male and one female or you will have a whole bunch of guinea pigs in a short period of time!! One thing you can do to confirm - the lighter colored guinea pig photo is more clear and is a female. The darker one is a bit harder to tell - if you compare them and they look the same then they are both females. If you are unsure, you can also post additional photos.
