Why does my senior Golden's front leg limp and get puffy in morning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My Golden will be 8 in November he is large (83lbs) he’s developed a mild limp in his front left leg. I’ve messed w the leg and paw and he doesn’t get upset like it hurts. It is puffy at the very top of the leg but again nothing he won’t let me touch. The limp is very bad in the morning, much worse and slows him down. What might this be?

Lameness which is worse after rest is common in many cases of arthritis. I would recommend a full vet check and possibly xrays to determine the exact nature of the pain and formulate ongoing treatment to reduce pain and maximise mobility
