My dog has a new lump. Is it a tick or a harmless skin growth?

Hello. My 10yo dog chrlie she has small harmless lumps. But just spotted this one. Is it a tick????

While hard to say without seeing her in person, this does not have the appearance of a tick and looks more like a small skin growth. Ticks are usually dark in color, black/brown/maroon and once full of blood can have a pale grey appearance.

    From the pictures, this looks more like a skin growth than a tick, but without seeing T-Bone in person, I can't say for certain. Given the concern with tick paralysis in your country, I would have him seen by a vet today to be safe. Best of luck.

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. It looks like a skin growth. I don't think it is a tick or any other skin parasite. Ticks feed on dogs for 3-4 days and then fall off. If this lump has been there for a few months it cannot be a tick or any other bug. Skin growths like this are common in older dogs. They are usually benign and not dangerous, but please show it to your vet the next time you take Lily in for an appointment.

Is this a tick on my dog or a skin growth ? He has no symptoms of it being a paralysis tick. It has been there for one day.

Does this look like a tick or is it something else?
This does not look like a tick - it is more likely to be a skin cyst, a skin growth or papilloma or tumor, or possibly a wound caused by a grass seed / foxtail. Your vet will be able to identify what exactly it is and recommend treatment if indicated.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. What you are seeing looks to be a benign skin mass. It looks like what we call sebaceous adenomas, basically a benign mass of the glands in the skin. This is not a tick and I would not be alarmed by this. If it continues to grow in size, drastically change in appearance or all of a sudden it is bothering him, I would have a veterinarian examined him to perform additional tests on this Mass to ensure it is nothing to be concerned about. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be a benign or malignant growth. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hello, it doesn't sound like what you are describing is a tick. It sounds more like a cyst or mass with pigmentation on the skin. Just like any bump or lump, it should be checked to make sure it isn't something that needs to be removed. Good luck with Jack.

My dog gets a lump that won't go away after being bit by a tick. He has a lump on the top of his head from a tick bite that has been there for over a year. What could be the reason for this?
Sometimes thed skin reacts to the tick bite with an overproduction of connective tissue fibers. This usually feels like a hard little knot. It is more a beauty issue than a medical issue. This is not something you have to worry about as long as it does not grow in size or changes color or shape. It will likely get smaller over the years or maybe stay the same.

Based on the pictures, it does not look like a tick. It looks like a skin mass. Have your vet take a look at him to determine exactly what it is. Your vet may want to aspirate or biopsy to diagnose.

Hi, and thanks for your question. This lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors.
