My kitten won't take medicine. Can I use adult wet cat food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 22 days old

My 6 month old kitten won't allow for us to give her her liquid Amoxicillin, which she needs for a UTI. We have tried swaddling her with a towel, tried every method that the internet provides, but she won't remain calm and keeps wrangling away. Our only option is to mix the medication with a TINY amount of wet food and give it to her, making sure she finishes it. But the shop only sells adult wet cat food. Is it okay if we were to give her a tiny bit of that up to 3 times a day just for this?

Yes, a small amount of adult food to get the medication in would be fine (less than 20% of her daily food). Tablets can sometimes be easier than liquid and your vet may be able to change the prescription
