My dog has cancer: What's this discharge? Meloxidyl & Prednisone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Ferret | Male | neutered | 3 years and 8 months old | 2.4 lbs

One of my questions is about the meloxidyl which is attached and within the photos. The other question is, what is this? I thought it could be snot or puss, he has squaoma cell carcinoma in his upper left inside jaw. It hurts on that side of him and I was going to try to put a warehouse compress on it but rather get a second opinion on that. He's my buddy my constant faithful companion and I only get one shot at making his ending as comfortable as possible , and so I come to you guys.

Meloxidyl (meloxicam) is a NSAID and should not be used in conjunction with prednisone or any other steroid. There should be at least a 3-4 day wash out period between use. Ideally, you should wait at least a full week. That could be nasal or oral discharge. It could also be the tumor spreading. You can definitely try a warm compress to soften and clean up dried discharge. If it doesn't come off, then it could be tumor. You would need to have him physically examined by your veterinarian to diagnose it. If Willy is very painful, have him seen at the nearest veterinary ER. The doctors can dispense or administer different medications for pain, such as buprenorphine (Buprenex), that can be used in conjunction with Pred.
