Dog's ear bump popped and is bloody. Home care or vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | 60 lbs

A few days ago I noticed a blackish redish bump on the tip of my dogs ear. It has since popped and become a red sore bloody bump. It scabbed over once but my dog scratched it and opened it up again. Is this something I should worry about and get checked out or is there something I can do for her at home to help it heal? The picture is what it looked like after it popped. She’s been acting normal other than she did throw up a couple times but that has stopped completely.

Poor Arya. I would gently clean it with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep her from scratching at it, you can put an Ecollar on her. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. Best of luck.
