Is brown pee normal for a cat with fatty liver on Royal Canin Hepatic?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 11 years and 5 months old

Hello! I have a cat diagnosed with fatty liver. She got her treatment with 7 days of IV fluids and a change of her diet. I bought her food from royal canin hepatic and she started eating it and her pee suddenly changed color and became brown. I ran out of food for like 3 weeks because the company wasn't selling any more in my country and I had to give to my cat rice soup, and her pee turned into yellow. But now that I bought the hepatic food again she is peeing brown. Is this normal? Thanks

I have not heard of the Royal Canin hepatic food causing a discoloration of the urine. I suggest you take some photos of the brown urine to show your vet. They will be better able to help you since they have Kissi full medical history and blood test results. If a urinalysis was never performed it would be a good idea to do so.
