My dog has nasal cancer. How do I know if he's in pain or suffering?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 9 years and 7 months old | 110 lbs

We found out in March that he has nasal cancer. It is growing. He sneezes and gets a bloody nose about once or twice a week. How do I know if he is in pain. He doesn’t move around a lot but he does eat and drink.

I am so sorry to hear about Max. It can be difficult sometimes to evaluate our pet's quality of life during these times. I recommend filling our this questionarre: https://vet.osu.edu/vmc/sites/default/files/import/assets/pdf/hospital/companionAnimals/HonoringtheBond/HowDoIKnowWhen.pdf which has a list of questions to help you evaluate Max's quality of life which can also help you evaluate if he is in pain as pain can stop him from doing certain things he might normally enjoy.
