My Pekin duck has frequent seizures. What can I do to help her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I have a 12 week old Pekin duck that started having seizures a few days ago. She is having 12+ per day. I live in the Sacramento area and was told by an avian vet that no poultry is being seen in the area because of Newcastle Disease. Is there anything I can do to help her? I’ve read that it can be a vitamin deficiency so we have started adding a poultry vitamin boost to her water. We have also tried adding niacin. We have been sprinkling Brewers yeast on top of her food. She’s not eating much.

You could try to continue the vitamins (there are some that can be mixed with water and then syringe fed) however I would be concerned about quality of life with that many seizures ongoing. If your duck seems to be suffering it may be best to humanely euthanize. If you suspect there may be something such as an illness that caused the seizures, a necropsy from your vet or a local veterinary college may help determine the cause of the issue so you can treat the rest of your flock as needed.
