Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Male | neutered | 9 years and 7 months old | 60 lbs
Hello! Yesterday I put my 10 year old male basset to sleep. Just week ago he seemed good and suddenly he couldn't get up. The therapy vet gave me didn't work, he said it was age. He was lying on the side, whining and trembling. I didn't want him to suffer anymore so I gave him a narcosis in my backyard and took him to the vet for his last shot. What do you think might have caused his rapid disease, maybe some silent tumors? I feel so bad because it bothers me that I could have helped him more.

I am so very sorry to hear about Koko. Without having examined him it is very difficult for us to give possible causes, and your vet is definitely the person to ask for this information. Possible conditions that could cause the symptoms you describe could include tumors in the brain, stroke, a herniated intervertebral disk compressing the spinal cord, trauma, a tumor bleeding into the abdomen causing severe anemia and weakness, just to name a few. It sounds like Koko was suffering and you did your best to alleviate his suffering. I am very sorry for your loss.
