Hi so my dog has this bump looking cut on her right leg that won’t seem to heal because she keeps licking it, and it smells weird. A couple of months back after I gave her a hair cut I had noticed a little bump that looked like a mosquito bite but know I notice theirs a cut and it looks black around it but pink on the inside. I’ve tried cutting her hair around it so it can heal properly but there’s a huge knot that’s hard to get out. Please help me, I can’t afford to take her to the vet.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). Ideally a check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. The area must be clipped more and disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths (twice daily). Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any).
