Is anesthesia safe for my 7-year-old dog's surgery? What's monitored?

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 7 years and 2 months old | 16 lbs

My dog is getting surgery tomarrow for his broken tail. He's going to get it amputated. And I'm really worried about putting him under beacuse hes 7.. will the vets make sure hes okay when hes getting put under? Like they are going to monitor his breathing and heart?

I recommend to discuss your concerns with your veterinarian. In general, pets should have their heart rate, their breathing rate, temperature and their blood pressure monitored at all times. Oscar should also have blood work ran before the procedure and make sure he has IV fluids as well. These are the best things you can provide to help ensure a safe procedure (though keep in mind there is always some risk, just like humans).
