My dog is itchy and dragging. How to express anal glands at home?

Expressing bears anal glands. Can you please tell me the correct way ? I cannot financ. take him to the vet for this. As a history it's been about 5 months since the vet had done it and per bears history it's about time as he is again itchy and dragging. Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 12 years and 2 months old | 22 lbs

I am going to describe how to do it internally. With .a gloved hand and some KY on your finger, gently insert your finger into his anus. Once you just inside, push your finger gently down towards the 4 oclock and 8 oclock position. You will feel something like small grape. This is the anal gland. Gently push on it until it expresses. Its useful to have a paper towel handy to catch it as it comes out.
