Why is my senior dog suddenly having poop accidents in his kennel?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 50 lbs

Tuck is approx 9, stays in kennel during the day. He has had very few accidents until the last 2+ weeks. All of a sudden he has been pooping even after pooping around 0700 and only eating in the late afternoon/early evening. He has been pooping within 2-5 hours after being put in the kennel. Poop is normal, diet has not changed, only eats dog food. This is happening almost every other day.

If this is a new behavior I would recommend bringing Tuck along with a stool sample into your vet. This can help rule out some more common issues such as parasites that could be causing GI upset and accidents. Your vet can also examine Tuck for issues such as arthritis that may be making it harder or difficult for Tuck to go potty thus leading to the accidents, or any other health issues that may be affecting his ability to hold it.
