My kitten won't eat after travel & hides. Should I force feed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 8 months and 16 days old | 13 lbs

Just travelled 28 hours with an 8 month old kitten by air. He was very good and coped well. I let him out the carrier in the car on the way home and he was very cuddly and affectionate. He has however been under my bed since arriving home and hasn't eaten for about 56 hrs. I have syringe fed him water numerous times. Should I put some soft food in his mouth and semi force it?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! 56 hours is a long time to go without eating. Now that it is approaching 3 days with little to no food, I would concerned there is something medically wrong that is causing Magin's inappetence. Sometimes stress (coming home from the trip in this case) can be a cause but I would expect that to last for a day or two but not longer than that. I would recommend taking Magin into see his veterinarian for an evaluation and exam so you can find out what is going on. I hope this helps!
