Puppy nose rash persists after antibiotics. Should I see a new vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 months and 3 days old | 25 lbs

My 8 mo old pup has something going on with his schnoz. I first noticed it Thursday 8/22, and it developed into a rash/discoloration by the weekend. Took him to the vet that Monday (8/26), and he told me he probably got stung or bitten by something and sent me away with 5 days of antibiotics. It's looking less inflamed now, but still visible (as you can see by the pictures!), and I just wanted to see if there's anything else I should be doing, or if I should take him to a different vet.

Aww poor guy! If it was just a bug bite, it should be resolved by now. I would have him checked out by a vet. Its not an emergency if its not bothering him, but do get him in when you can in the next week or so. However, If it seems to be getting a little better each day, give it .a week or two and see if it resolves. If he is pawing at it at all, put an Ecollar (cone of shame) on him so that he can't scratch at it and make it worse. Thanks for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
