My dog's small bite wound is wet and not healing. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | unspayed | 9 months and 11 days old | 23 lbs

My dog was bit by another dog at the park. She came straight up to the others face trying to play but the older dog didn’t like that so she locked on to my dogs mouth and now there’s a small puncture wound. It was bleeding a small amount at the time. Cleaned with hydrogen peroxide (advice from park volunteer). Since then it hasn’t scanned up but isn’t dripping blood either. It just seems like it is still wet but not oozing. Should I be worried? Or will this heal on its own with propen care

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lexi. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. Dog bite wounds can be serious even if small. The tooth will puncture the skin on the surface, but can tear underlying tissues not visible from the outside. The other risk is if the original wound heals over, infection can be trapped beneath the skin resulting in an abscess. Her veterinarian will examine her and determine how best to treat her wound. I hope this information helps!
