Why does my vet prescribe antibiotics? How to get clear answers?

Thanks Dr. Destini. What made me think of that question was that when I go to the vet, I tell them what’s wrong& they give antibiotics to see if it helps& if not then it’s viral. That’s what I meant by “handing them out”. Also, when the vet looks at them& then says “I’ll give them antibiotics” then walks out, from my perspective, I’m wondering if he just looked at my dog& guessed or what just happened. I love my vet but I hardly know what they are doing to my dog. I have to be annoying& ask ??’s. Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 8 months and 3 days old | 25 lbs
