My 7-month puppy mated. Can she get pregnant on her first heat?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 18 days old | 5 lbs

I have an 7 month Malti Poo and a 11 year old Min Pin. Can my 7 month get pregnant if she mated for the first time ?

Yes Lola can, but she should not be mated just yet. It's not recommended to mate a dog on the first heat, you should wait until at least the second heat to give her time to mature physically and emotionally.

    No, she’s still just a teenager and needs to mature before being bred. Young dogs have more trouble giving birth and they are not usually as good at being a mother as older, more mature dogs. I usually recommend waiting until the second or third heat to breed a dog. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for California.

    While it's not recommended that a dog gets pregnant on their first heat, typically they do tend to be ok. If she does accidentally get pregnant, be sure to have regular visits with the vet, and have money set aside in case she needs an emergency c section. I hope this helps!
