Why is my cat suddenly spinning, agitated, and jumpy after moving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Female | spayed | 1 year and 4 months old

I recently moved home with my 16 month old cat, shes been kept indoors for just over 2 week and has settled in well. Last night she started spinning around chasing her tail, She seemed to be doing this most of the night and scratching the carpet which she has rarely done before. I put this down to her being bored being stuck in so I let her venture out today. All was well outside but when she came back in the same again spinning around chasing shadows and in general seems agitated or jumpy

It is possible there is something in the house such as a rodent or critter in the walls that she is hearing and trying to catch, especially if her behavior is at the same time/location each time. Checking for that is a good first step. Making sure to tired out Georgie may also help. If she continues to do the strange spinning and chasing, or seems disoriented, is losing balance, or has other symptoms in addition, a vet visit is best to rule out any health issues.
