Why is my dog having seizures, swollen stomach, and blue tongue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 13 years and 8 months old

I have a 13 year old jack Russell that has a very swollen stomach, shallow breathing and is suffering seizures most of the time whilst eating she will fall onto her back and go stiff and her tongue comes out of her mouth with a blue tinge. I have visited a vet and was told to call and make another app. Do you have any idea what this could be. She also had a hysterectomy 2 years ago and had small swelling but has since got larger she is urinating and pooing as normal and is not drinking anymore

Tia may be dealing with seizures, or another type of neurological disease, or she may have heart condition causing her to have a condition called syncope, which can look similar to what you mentioned. I recommend you have her see a vet asap. See the following links for more information, including when Tia's symptoms indicate an emergency situation that requires immediate medical attention: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951440 https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=5862540
