My cat licked acid toilet cleaner. What should I do if no symptoms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 13 years and 6 months old | 8.5 lbs

Our cat licked a little toilet bowl cleaner that was in the toilet. The active ingredient is hydrochloric acid (9.50%). She has no symptoms. We gave her water and milk. Anything else you'd suggest doing?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Kitty Perry. I love her name! I’d just watch her for now, and check her mouth to make sure there are no burns in it. If you see burns, take her into a vet immediately. If you see excessive drooling, vomiting, difficulty eating, or lethargy, have her seen by a vet. You did the right thing by giving her milk. I hope this helps.
