How to cope with the grief after my dog was euthanized due to illness?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Male | 11 years and 7 months old | 50 lbs

Hey, I have this issue. My dog was ill (English cocker spaniel), he had tumors on his legs, his lungs, heart and stomach were full of some liquid which was tiring him. He didn't get any sleep for 3 days so our vet decided to euthanise him. I was just wondering if you could give me any advice on how to deal with the fact that he is gone. I attached a few pictures of him aswell

I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to Odis! He was a handsome boy. It's never easy to have to say goodbye to a beloved pet, but it did sound like he was quite sick. By letting him go, you took away his pain and discomfort, which is a great gift. He's at peace now, no long suffering, and you should know you did the right thing for him. I'm sure he loved you, and try to remember all the good times you had with it. It's so painful now, but over time, the pain will ease. You will always love him and miss him, but keep the memories of him close with you. I hope this helps.
