My chameleon has black spots. Are they mites, ticks, or shedding?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Chameleon | Female

Hello, I I recently bought a juvenile chameleon who I believe may have mites/ticks. The chameleon eats 4 crickets 2 times a day her appetite has not changed and she drinks water from the leaves in which i mist 2 times a day. I recently noticed black spots on her skin especially under her neck as she was shedding. Idk if she has mites/ticks, Please help thank you.

Thanks for reaching out about Nala and including photos. Ticks are not common but mites can be seen with the naked eye, are usually red or black and moving. The raised lesions can be due to any type of trauma. A veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Infections will required systemic antibiotics. Good luck.
