Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Male | neutered | 8 lbs
My chihuahua has a large hard lump under his eye. I’ve been watching it and it doesn’t seem to causing any pain but today it’s gotten so big he can’t open his eye. He’s old not too sure how old but he’s old. No teeth he’s lost most of them. He has a few in the back.

Poor Brody! There are a number of different things that could cause a swelling like this - it could be an abscess (possibly related to an infected tooth), some kind of inflammatory reaction, or even some type of tumor. This should definitely be checked out by your veterinarian in person, so I would recommend taking him in for an exam as soon as you're able to. He/she can take a closer look at the area and will advise you on what kind of treatment is needed.

A swollen eye is always an emergency and you need to take Bruno to a veterinarian today. He could have severe conjunctivitis, a corneal ulcer or injury or other problem which could damage his vision if not treated. Your vet will examine the eye and surrounding structures, check the cornea for injury, and look into the eye with an ophthalmoscope. Treatment varies with the diagnosis. Please take him to a vet today.
