Is 1000mg methocarbamol safe for my 175lb Great Dane's limp?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Dane | Male | neutered | 5 years old | 180 lbs

My great dane is 175 lbs. He was limping and we have him some methocarbamol 500 mg. The dosage said 20-30 mg per lb so we gave him 2 pills but now I'm worried that may have been too much. Is this amount dangerous?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Brody. I'm sorry he's in pain. Initially, it can be dosed at 7-20mg per pound. At his weight, that's 1,225mg to 3,500mg. You gave him 1000mg, which is actually below the recommended dose range. You did not overdose him, and things will be ok. I hope this helps!
