My dog is dry heaving but acting normally. Still eating. Wants to play. Not lethargic. Is this signs of GDV?

No, it's not a sign of GDV. The most common disease causing this symptom is a viral/bacterial infection called Kennel cough, this disease usually resolves without treatment within a couple weeks but if the cough is too severe it is recommended to go to the vet in order to get cough medicine and antibiotics.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am glad he is acting normal and eating. Could be be coughing and not trying to vomit? If the retching continues then I would have him seen by a Vet. Especially if he stops eating, starts pacing and/or has a distended belly as those are signs of bloat. Dogs with bloat DO NOT eat or act normal so I do not think that is what is going on. The most common reason for coughing with a retch is kennel cough. Other causes of retching are tracheal or esophageal irritation, nausea, a blockage or other stomach upset. Hopefully it runs its course but if it persists I would have him seen. Good luck!

It could be that Remi is nauseous or it could be he has a respiratory infection and he's coughing. Given this has been going on for four days, I'd take him into a vet tomorrow or Tuesday to get checked out. Best of luck.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lizzie. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian if her symptoms persist. While she could be experiencing nausea, a respiratory infection is also possible. In the latter case, the dog can have a dry hacking cough that will cause them to gag. A foamy white material may be produced. Keep her quiet to alone her body to rest. She should stay home as well in case she is contagious. I hope this information helps!
