My dog has diarrhea, vomiting, and pooping in his crate. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 35 lbs

It's been about a week now that Koda has been having diarrhea when I walk him. It's not days in a row. More like every other day. Hes been pooping in the crate. That's a new thing. I gave him canned pumpkin to try and thrown in 4 spots on 2 separate days. I dont know what to do or give him to help him.

Poor Koda! The vomiting and diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something he shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites or even organ disease and intestinal blockage. Since the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours and he is now having some vomiting, I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check him for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible. I hope Koda starts feeling better quickly! Please feel free to post any additional questions.

Murphy could have an infection or mild stomach upset. If the vomiting stops, he eats/drinks normally and the diarrhea stops he likely will be fine. Sometimes a bland diet like white rice/boiled chicken helps reset the stomach but other times prescription medication from a veterinarian is needed. But if the diarrhea becomes bloody, increases in frequency or he continues to vomit Murphy likely needs fluids to prevent dehydration as well as medication from your veterinarian for nausea and likely antibiotics.
