What should I use to clean my cat's surgery wound after potty?

Kitties can be so naughty post surgery. Although it is not advised to do a full body bath, you can use a waterless shampoo and kitten wipes from your local pet store to get him clean. As long as the inicision site itself stays dry you are ok. Best of luck keeping kitty clean! : ) Take care.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! The safest thing to use to clean it would be using a dry towel to dry the area carefully of course to avoid irritating the incision. I assume you mean that he had a PU surgery recently. You may then use a wet towel to get the urine smell off. I recommend that you check with your veterinarian to have the incision reevaluated as urine can irritate the incision and also he should not be urinating like that. Good luck and have a great day!

Cats are little stinkers! You may have to try a longer than normal rigid e-collar, or you can look for the bowl style that are used in cats. You could try a large tube sock as a dress (cut holes for head and arms). You could attach string or elastic to make "stirrups" that pull the shirt down. As for cleaning, a warm wet washcloth is all that is needed. Though, since it appears red and swollen, I would recommend taking her to the vet for evaluation and possibly to start antibiotics.

That incision site looks absolutely great! There is no evidence of swelling or infection. Keep up the great work! It is not necessary to rinse the area or disinfect the area with anything at this time. You run the risk of disturbing the incision site this way, and also moisture will promote bacterial colonization. Hope this helps!

It looks like an almost healed wound, but I'd have to inspect it a bit closer to be sure. In this case, it's best to gently clean the area every day to help it heal and keep it from getting infections. I would just gently wipe the area with a cloth soaked in warm water for two minutes each day. Do not use any soaps, antiseptics or creams as these can irritate the skin and delay healing. If the wound is not getting better, or appears to be getting worse, then it's best to have your veterinarian examine her and advise on the best course of treatment. As a side note, I see some dark debris suspicious of flea dirt in the hair surrounding the affected area. I would make sure that she doesn't have fleas and/or is on flea treatment. Hello, you should not bathe Batman for two weeks until his incision has healed. You would use a skin sensitive baby wipe to clean him off as long as you don't clean around his scrotum. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Be sure the incision site is clean and dry, and watch for signs of infection (redness, swelling, drainage). Do not let her pick at the site. Restrict her activity until she goes back to the vet for her post-op checkup. Try to keep her from jumping up onto furniture, beds, etc. She should be fine!

For cleansing the wound, you can use a diluted solution of Betadine and Saline mixed together until you have a light brown solution. Use this to clean the area and to help decontaminate the wound. If the wound begins to develop signs of infection such as pus, swelling, etc., I would recommend having Slinky examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatment recommendations can be made. Hi Linda. I'm sorry to hear that Bugger has squamous cell carcinoma. If you're cleaning the wound simply to remove any build up of discharge, then saline alone is sufficient. However, if you're looking more for antiseptic properties, cleansers like chlorhexidine (Hibiclens is a trade name) or betadine are more effective. Either of these should be rinsed well with water. With that said, if his SCC is near his eye, avoid other cleansers, as they could cause eye irritation. Generally speaking, I try to avoid medications containing neomycin in cats because many cats can react poorly. Additionally, the dexamethasone may help minimize some inflammation, but is likely to delay any healing. Ultimately, your best option is to establish a care protocol with Bugger's vet since I don't know the extent of this lesion nor its location. In the meantime, you can stick with saline cleaning if the lesion is near his eye, or switch to the antiseptic cleansers mentioned above if the lesion is elsewhere. I

The stitches have to be kept dry, so no Cleo cannot have a bath. She should not be allowed to roll around it the mud while she is healing, so I would keep her indoors until it's time for the stitches to come out. Try to remove the mud with a soft wash cloth.
