My rabbit has a wet chin, droopy cheek, and crooked teeth. Help!

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 2 months old | 5 lbs

My rabbit has had a few problems and from this info I need to know if this could be contagious or if I can breed him with my doe. Maybe you can even tell me what’s wrong. It started 2 weeks ago Thumper started getting a wet chin. Later one day he got a droopy cheek. Anti inflammatory didn’t work. We think he stroked. His left eye is watery and has discharge and he doesn’t eat anything but pellets and very few. he’s now loosing weight and I noticed today his teeth look crooked.

Thanks for reaching out about Thumper and including photos. By the description and swelling on the right side of the face, a dental abscess is highly suspicious. The dental disease is making it difficult for Thumper to eat, therefore loosing weight. A veterinary visit is recommended, the sooner the better. Rarely do antibiotics solve this problem, might requiring some surgery or tooth extraction. Good luck.
