Why is my cat bleeding after stitches removed from bladder surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat has recently had surgery to remove bladder stones, today he got his stitches removed but I noticed after getting him home that he is bleeding. Is this normal? It's been about 5x 1cm² drops that I have cleaned or found around the house.

Sometimes the skin can accidentally get cut when the sutures are removed but in general, it is not considered normal to see bleeding. I recommend to have your kitty wear an Elizabethan collar at all times and to call your veterinarian. They may be able to give you an answer right away or they may recommend to examine your kitty again. Always best to play it safe.
