My dog has a spreading, crusty rash. Is it mites or allergies again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bully | Male | neutered | 5 years and 11 months old | 185 lbs

My dog is terrified of vet. Before I bring him in I’ll ask here. I think he has mites. He has seasonal allergies but this yr they aren’t subsiding. Only getting worse. Tried Zyrtec which usually works. Didn’t. Now on benadryl but doesn’t seem to help. The rash is spreading. It’s crusty & scaly. His fur comes off. It’s down his back. Spread to his tail and legs and on his under belly. Is there any home remedy I can use or way to know it’s mites and not something else. He’s 6yr old american bully

The only way to tell if Buddha has mites is to do a skin scraping and look for the mites under a microscope. You do have to take him into the vet to diagnose what is causing this skin problems, which look awful, and can treat him.
