Why is my dog cowering and peeing when approached? Stress or anxiety?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old | 35 lbs

Why has my dog started cowering and peeing a little whenever me or my wife walk up to her? This started happening out of nowhere she squats down like she thinks she's in trouble. I approach her very carefully and non aggressively. We have had to move around alot recently, is this a result of stress or separation anxiety? What can I do to try and help her feel better?

It seems likely that a stressful event has caused this behaviour change. I imagine she feels insecure with the recent moving around. She should settle now that you have moved, bit getting her into a good structured routine will help to make her feel secure. You could also think about pet remedy. If the behaviour but persists I would consult a behaviourist.
