My dog has diarrhea at night. What should I do about his crate?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Olde English Bulldogge | Female | unspayed | 10 months and 24 days old | 62 lbs

My dog is caged at night, but he’s been having diarrhea for about 2 hours. It’s midnight here, but I don’t feel good about putting him back into the cage. What can I do for him?

Poor Bentley. You can leave him out of the cage for tonight but you may have to clean up diarrhea spots. If you are ok with that, leave him out tonight. In the morning, feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, he stops drinking water, he starts vomiting water, he refuses to eat the bland diet, or he becomes very lethargic, then I would have him seen by a vet immediately.
