My baby lovebird is sick and struggling to breathe. Will he live?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Lovebird | Male | unneutered | 20 days old

This baby lovebird was thrown out of the nest by his mum, his sibling is much bigger and stronger. He had a lot of food/snot build up on his nose which I removed. He is sneezing sometimes and his nostrils have a clear snotty discharge. It's hard for him to breathe. I live in Bali where it is hard to find a good vet especially for birds. Do you think he will live? I have had him 2days now. I've been feeding him with a syringe/rubber tube.

Thanks for reaching out about Eggbert and including a photo. These baby parrots need to be fed every 3-4 hours, almost as soon as the crop empties. Providing heat and humidity support are very important. Concerns are over some underlying disease (bacterial, viral, developmental) and that is why hen kicked it out of the nest. A veterinary visit might be needed to assess and determine if antibiotics might be needed. Good luck.
